One of the main purposes of HogEx is to allow our members to role play to their heart's content. That said, some rules must be followed when roleplaying around the forums.
If, for some reason, you do not understand the rules, agree with a moderation action, or have any other problems, please owl a member of the RP Team or an Administrator. If you need help with roleplaying, feel free to check out the RP Teaching Center.
The RP Staff, Moderators, Global Moderators, and Administrators will be watching all RPs and checking them on a regular basis. If you violate any of these rules, your threads may be locked or edited. Please keep that in mind while posting.
Please make sure that you've read the Rules before posting anywhere on this forum.[/li]
[li]Harassment
While we encourage and allow users to ask people to join their RPs, we want to be sure that you respect each other. If a user tells you that they do not wish to RP with you, accept it and move on. Do not continue to ask, bug, or Owl them about RPs they've turned down.[/li]
[li]PG-13 Content
HogEx has members ranging from ages ten and up. For that reason, all content on HogEx should remain PG-13. If you do not know what PG-13 entails, please read the PG-13 Movie Guide part of this page. Even though the page discusses the ratings for movies, the details of PG-13 explained on the page also apply to any writing. Don't forget to follow the site rules along with the guide provided for appropriate content.[/li]
[li]Start RPs with a role play post
We understand the need to introduce your characters, and we don't have a problem with that. However, you cannot begin an RP with just your character's details or a request to role play. All RPs MUST include an RP Post in the original post.[/li]
[li]Finding people to RP with
The only forum that you can post threads that involve finding people to RP with, plotting ideas, etc., is the RP Lounge. If we believe that you post any of those things in any other forum, the thread will be moved and/or locked.[/li]
[li]RP Titles
Thread titles for RPs should follow the format below. Any threads that do not comply are subject to being locked and/or edited.
Format: Thread Title (Open/Closed, Genre/Theme, Looking for Character male/female, etc.)
*NOTE: If you state your RP is open, you cannot exclude anyone who posts in it.[/li]
[li]Non-RP Areas
While HogEx is a massive site with many forums for roleplaying, there are some forums and areas of the forum where actual role playing is not permitted. They are listed below:
[li]Mixed Boards
Mixed boards are forums that allow a combination of discussion as well as RPs. On these boards, make sure you are not discussing things in an RP thread or roleplaying in a discussion thread.[/li]
[li]RP Post Length
Each role play post should contain a minimum of four or five sentences. Overall, it will improve the quality of the role play as well as give the members of the RP something to work with when replying.[/li][/ul]
If you need any rule clarifications, have questions, or suggestions, please post them in the RP Questions thread.

[li]Non-RP Areas
While HogEx is a massive site with many forums for roleplaying, there are some forums and areas of the forum where actual role playing is not permitted. They are listed below:
- Any area of the welcome center including, but not limited to, the Support Forum; Feedback & Ideas.
- General Discussion areas such as anything in the "HP Universe" and "Get Involved" Categories at the bottom of the sidebar.
- Common Rooms
While common rooms are non-role play areas, each common room has an RP sub-forum that allows for roleplaying. That said, you can RP in common room areas if you wish. We just wanted you guys to be aware that it is, technically, an area of the forum where we do NOT force RP.
