Getting Sorted Into A House
After signing up, you should have automatically been redirected to the "Sorting Ceremony Form." If for some reason, this hasn't happened, and you have not yet completed the application; then, this will be the reason you have not found placement in a house. If you were not redirected to the "Sorting Ceremony," you can access the ceremony from the "Welcome Owl" you were sent upon successful enrollment. Additionally, you can visit The Sorting Ceremony. Please read this page carefully and fill in all the details on the page. Be sure to be honest when selecting your answers to ensure you are placed in the best house that is suited to your personality. Once you are happy, submit the form. Please Note: It may take up to 72 hours for the sorting process to be completed. If this time has passed, and you still haven't been placed in a house, please let us know via the Support Board.

- Scroll down the page a little and you will notice the E-Mail section on the left-hand side.

Forgotten Passwords
If you have forgotten your password, you can click on the "Forgot Password" button from the login page. You will be prompted to enter your username, and an email will be sent to the last email address we have on file for you. The email will contain a password reset link. For this reason, it's crucial that you keep your email address up-to-date at all times. *NOTE: Usernames are NOT the same as a display name. The username is the name you entered when you registered/enrolled your account on HogEx. In some cases, the username will be the same as the display name if the user and staff haven't changed the display name to show something different than the registered name.

- Scroll down the page a little and you will notice the "Enable Drafts" section.
- Simply set this to "Yes" by ticking the radio button next to it.
- Then click on "Save Account Settings" at the bottom.

Changing Your Avatar If you wish to change your avatar this can be done at any stage by following the steps below: - On the left-hand side of the forum, click on the "My HogEx" link to access your profile.
- Next, below the "About Me" section in the middle of the page, click on "Edit Profile."
- You should now be on the "Avatar" tab.
- If you select the "Use only the Uploaded/Linked" option you will be able to upload an image from your computer to use as an avatar (WE DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS). By clicking on the "Uploaded/Linked" text, the browser will open the Explorer Window where you can navigate your computer's file system and locate the image you wish to use.
- We recommend that you use the "Uploaded/Linked" option to LINK to an external image file instead, to avoid skewed and blurred avatars. You can upload images at IMGUR, a reliable image host, and then link the picture by posting the direct link to the file into the "Link" field.
- Unless you already have an image uploaded, it will revert to this photo from the default.
- Alternatively, you can select the "No Avatar (Default Setting)" which will display the forum's default avatar. Currently, the default avatar is shown for all users without an "Uploaded/Linked" image.
- Then, click on "Save Avatar Changes."

Username VS Display Name
Like many forums, each member will have a username. Our software allows users to have a "Display Name" that is different from their username. UsernameA username is a unique forum identifier that is non-changeable and will link directly to your specific account. This enables things like the tagging system where you can type the @ character followed by the person's username. Doing so will notify that user they have been tagged in a post. For example, if I wanted to tag myself in this post, I'd type the @ followed by my username: admin. When put together, the @ plus my username would show my display name in the post like this: Teg Salvatore . If you click on my name, it takes you to my user profile. Display NameA display name is a customizable name which can be changed at will depending on the forum's rules and restrictions which can be used to include letters, numbers and special characters. On HogEx, display names can only be changed by Administrators.

Creating Topics/Threads
HogEx is built on the foundation of users posting content to the forum in the way of Threads (topics) and posts. Each user can create new threads all over the forum. We have over 200 forums on HogEx, and the vast majority of them allow RP. Please take a look at the information below. It explains how to create a "New Thread." First, navigate to the forum you'd like to post your new topic into. This can be almost any forum. For example, say that you have a question; you would create a new thread in the "Support" forum. To access the support forum, click on the "Support" link located under the "Welcome" category of the sidebar. Next, at the very top right-hand side, you should see a "+ New Thread" option. If you click on the "+ New Thread" link, it will open up the text editor (or a form). From the editor, be sure to input a Subject for your new thread. A subject is a title or topic. The subject of a thread should always be related to the content within it. So, if your post revolves around a particular topic, then your title should reflect that. Next, move on to the text box and input the content you wish to provide for the new thread. When you are finished and are happy with the content, select the "Create Thread" button on the lower right-hand side of the editor. Doing so will post your new thread.

Replying To Topics
Replying to topics/threads is relatively easy. Just navigate to the thread you'd like to respond to by clicking on the thread's title. From there, you have two options. You can read the first post and click the "+ Reply" button. It will open up the text editor where you can type your response. When you are finished, click on the "Create Post" button located at the bottom right-hand side of the editor. Doing so will post your reply to the thread. Optionally, you can scroll down and read through the thread. At the very bottom of the thread, there is a "Quick Reply" box. You can type your response to the thread in that text area and click on "Post Quick Reply." Doing so will post your reply to the thread.

Adding Attachments
To add an attachment to a thread or reply (post), just click on the "Add Attachment" button located at the top-right hand side of the text editor when creating a new thread or replying to a post. The button is located next to a "Cog" icon in line with the "Subject" section of a thread or post. You are permitted to add pictures, graphics, .psds, word documents, etc. That said, only do this if it is necessary. At times, we may require you to submit contest entries as an attachment. If this is the case, we'll express the need to use attachments in the rules and guidelines for the particular contest. Attachments are used for larger graphic/picture pieces and provide clickable thumbnails as opposed to full blown graphic designs. That said, we have our site set up to automatically resize images to fit our website's width, so it is not a requirement that you use this feature. It's merely accessible for your convenience and contest/event purposes.

Editing Posts At some point, you may need to edit your post. Maybe an image didn't display correctly, or perhaps you made an error in your writing, and you wish to correct it. Possibly, you may have thought of something you wanted to add but wish to avoid double posting, so you don't break any of our rules. In boards where editing is allowed, you can edit your posts to fix these types of errors. To edit your post, navigate to the reply that you'd like to change. At the top of the specific post, you should see an "Edit" button. Clicking that button will open the text editor allowing you to change the text for the post you are making edits to. When you are satisfied with the changes, click the "Save Changes" button located at the bottom right-hand side of the editor. Doing so will automatically save your changes in the post. *NOTE: HogEx has the option to provide an "Edit Reason" when modifying a post. While it's not a required thing to do, we do encourage our members to include a reason for editing their post. It helps the staff when browsing through various topics and threads.
