Below, you will find several frequently asked questions and their corresponding answers regarding role play on HogEx. After reading through this FAQ, all additional questions you may have should be directed to the RP Questions thread.
English is the only language that we allow on HogEx. You are not permitted to RP in any other languages.[/li]
[li]How do I clarify, before posting, if something is PG-13 or not?
If you are unsure if a plot or idea is considered PG-13, please Owl a member of the RP Team or an Admin before posting the content.[/li]
[li]What do lock icons next to a thread title mean?
If a thread contains a lock icon next to its title, it means that the thread is closed and can no longer receive replies. Threads are often locked due to lack of activity, breaking forum or RP rules, arguing, etc.[/li]
[li]What is God-modding and how to avoid it?
Taking control of another person's character without their permission is considered God-modding. This includes their looks, making them get hit by a car, etc. It is frowned upon and will likely get your post removed. Additionally, a person caught God-modding will lose RP privileges site-wide.[/li]
[li]What is an OC (original character)?
OC means Original Character. It's a character that is not cannon. The character is created by the writer. If you have a plot where Hermione has a sister, the sister would be an original character because she did not exist within the stories.[/li]
[li]What is a Cannon Character?
Cannon Characters are characters from the original story. Professor Snape, Albus Dumbledore, Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Ginny Weasley are all considered "Cannon Characters."[/li]
[li]Can I use cannon characters to RP with?
Simply, no. The only users who can RP as a cannon character are members of the RP Team in OFFICIAL roleplays. The idea is to be creative and create your own characters. That said, you are allowed to reference cannon characters when roleplaying.[/li]
[li]What is a Mary-Sue Character?
Mary-Sue refers to an unrealistic character. This means that the character is too perfect, good-looking, well-liked, and don't have any flaws. These types of characters are not permitted.[/li]
[li]How does a good RP start?
The first post you make in any RP thread that you start should include the plot of the RP, the character's details, and the RP post to start the roleplay. Below is an example of a good first post for a new RP thread.
As shown above, all RP starting posts must include a Plot, Character Information, and the RP Post. That said, each person who responds to the RP should add their character's details and an RP post with their FIRST response. This means that you only have to post your character's details ONCE in a single RP.[/li]
[li]Is there a limit to the number of characters I can play?
The simple answer to this question is no. Throughout the forum, you are permitted to play as many characters as you'd like. Each RP can have a different character. The whole point of roleplaying is to be creative, create your own characters, plots, worlds, etc.
That said, you can only play ONE character in a single thread. This means that the character you start an RP with is the only character you can role play in the particular RP.[/li][/ul]
Currently, this concludes our RP FAQ. Please direct all additional questions to the RP Questions thread as specified at the beginning of this post. This thread will be updated and modified as new frequently asked questions arise.

The Plot
It is the start of the school year, and you're about to go to King's Cross and board the Hogwarts Express with your friends. Did all of you plan to meet up before heading to school this year? Are you familiar with the people in the compartment you went into?
Character
Name: Adalind Salvatore
Appearance: Long and dark, curly hair. Five feet tall. Blue eyes.
Age & Year: 13 - 3rd year
House: Gryffindor
Personality: ~ Perfectionist, Intelligent, Caring, Forgiving, Family & Friend(s) Oriented, Loyal, Honest, and Straightforward
Opening RP
Adalind was excited to begin another year at Hogwarts. She'd spent most of the summer with family listening to snarky remarks from her parents about how she can improve her marks. "You should strive for perfection." She must have heard that phrase a thousand times. She let out a sigh and headed for the platform.
The Gryffindor girl swiftly navigated her way through the crowd at King's Cross Station with her head held high. As she passed platforms six and seven, she wondered if she'd be the first of her friends to make it to the train. At last, she approached the wall between platforms nine and ten and ran straight through the wall onto platform 9 and 3/4.
The crimson-colored train blared its horn and let out a puff of white smoke. She smiled with excitement as she approached the Hogwarts Express. Adalind was ready to get away from her family and learn what Hogwarts had to teach her.
"Adalind!" Someone called out to her from the crowd in front of her. As she picked up her pace, she realized it was her friend. Azy was shouting and waving her towards him.
